FOTR - Families on the RoadAirstream

In 1929, Wally Byam built the world's first Airstream trailer. It started out as a tent contraption that he built on a Model T chassis, but it wasn't a lot of fun in the rain. So he replaced the tent with a teardrop-shaped permanent shelter - and added a stove and ice chest, too.
It was easy to tow and caught the eye of other travelers, so much so that enough people asked Wally about it for him to decide it might be "a pretty good business to get into." Good thing he did!

Roadsmiths Family

We are a family of three with a grade-schooler, a cat and a love of travel. We spent nearly a month in our little 21' vintage Airstream in Summer 2016 and have been working to go fulltime since then. We are planning to spend at least a year on the road but have no real desire to ever come back.

Skippin' Town: A family, an Airstream, America

Convinced that a year in cold, rainy London was no way to spend quality time with their daughters, Claire Landon and Daniel Spring set their sights on America. The move into a 17'' 1966 Airstream Caravel took a bit of adjustment for preschooler Sophia, but life on the road is all baby Lulu knows.

Hofmann Architecture is now introducing a cutting-edge mobile office concept that moves at the pace and place of our clients. It was for this reason that we recently renovated a 17-foot,1967 Caravel Airstream, which supplements our brick and mortar design firm and work yard in Downtown Santa Barbara. The 44-year old sustainably-renovated Airstream was entirely designed and built in-house.

This mobile workspace has allowed us to take on design and build projects anywhere in the US. This new capability also provides our clients with a highly-personalized and efficient level of top shelf services.

AirstreamHoffman Architecture

Eight years ago, Hofmann Architecture was born out of an intentional decision to quit my traditional architecture job and begin designing living spaces that I was inspired by. Since our humble beginnings eight years ago, our team has completed more than 400 custom projects, from Airstreams and motorhomes, to vans and even things that fly. In that time, I also co-founded and designed the original units for the Autocamp.

We are always pushing to innovate our products and offer the best customer experience possible. After all, this isn't just a business for us, it's our lives. Today, my wife, Joanna and I continue to live a mobile lifestyle. We split our time between living on a boat in the Santa Barbara Harbor while experimenting with other mobile spaces. As an entrepreneur who is endlessly curious and demands a high standard of quality in life and in business, I continuously strive to push the limits of what's possible.

The experience that we've gained from our custom projects has given us a deep understanding of what our customers want and what truly adds value to a mobile lifestyle. While we cherish working 1-on-1 with clients to make their dreams come true, we ultimately feel responsible to contribute on a larger scale by making this lifestyle accessible to as many people as possible. While we've seen an exciting rise in new mobile alternatives for housing, nothing on the market spoke to both of our desires for a truly sustainable solution. Now when I say "sustainable", I'm speaking about more than the current standard of using low-impact materials and renewable energy sources. I'm speaking about a nomadic space that has the capacity to support life in a continuous way - a mobile space that would allow us to live full-time and feel truly at home. About two years ago, Joanna and I began to dream up this exact product. The result of this dream has led me to announce the release of our latest design called Living VehicleT. Designed by Hofmann Architecture and manufactured by Aluminum Trailer Company, Living Vehicle represents the culmination of all our experience to date. After a year of rigorous product testing, we are proud to be sending customers out on the road and can't wait to see how this product revolutionizes the way people live. So what's next for Hofmann? Aside from a new website coming soon, LV is just one of the exciting new products that we've released. We are currently partnering with other innovative companies who share our vision for spreading a better way of life. We believe that by joining forces, we can offer more and be a greater agent for change. There has never been a better time to challenge the status quo and for innovation to succeed, it must continue to address the problems of tomorrow. We know some of you have been following us from the very beginning, and we are so grateful for your support. With great humility and excitement, we ask for your continued support as our business evolves to take on new challenges, and to join us as we reach to make our dreams become reality.
