Below is a list of our Favorite Family Friendly Festivals!

Summertime means long, sun-filled days, cold glasses of lemonade, walks along the beach and countless hours splashing in a swimming pool. It also means it's time for some amazing music festivals. All over the country, bands are preparing to entertain the masses. Here are a few FOTR recommends.

MAY

18-21, SPRING GULCH FOLK FESTIVAL, New Holland, Pennsylvania - 4 day Festival with Camping: $165 adults / $40 kids ; Day tickets Only $25 adult, $10 kids A weekend-long event of excellent music, sing-a-long campfires, workshops, dancing, and crafts.

25- June 11, KERRVILLE FOLK FESTIVAL , Kerrville, Texas - $25-$40 per day, $20 camping fee for duration of festival "Kerrville" is a family oriented event. For 18 straight days and nights, over 30,000 guests comes from all over the world to experience the magic of the longest continuously running music festival of its kind in North America. The heart of soul of the festival is in the campgrounds where you can truly experience the abundance of talent creating a 24 hour a day treat for musicians and music enthusiasts alike. In addition to live music, there are also special concerts and activities for children, workshops, hill country bike rides, canoe trips on the Guadalupe River and Sunday folk song services. There is something for everyone who enjoys music, camping, the outdoors, and making new friends.

25-29, STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL, Groveland, California - All Festival 4-Day Pass with Camping: $200 adults / $60 kids . One Day Pass - No Camping: $65 adult / $20 kids . Anyone who is interested in working in exchange for their ticket should call the Strawberry office at 209-984-8630 and ask for Denise . "Strawberry Kids" activities feature a full lineup of music, arts and crafts, nature programs, dance workshops, storytelling, and more for kids of all ages. Four separate programs are designed for age specific interests while other activities are appropriate for all age levels, including adult-size kids! Many of the arts & crafts activities incorporate recycled materials to encourage awareness and appreciation of creative reuse. Programs are free and materials are provided.

JUNE

16- 18, MOUNTAIN JAM , Hunter, New York - This year features headliners Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Steve Miller Band, and The String Cheese Incident along with Peter Frampton, The Head and the Heart, Gary Clark, Jr, Michael Franti & Spearhead, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, and so many more. 3 day pass - $160 / RV Camping $199 / Children 10&under Free Mountain Jam is a 4 day, multi-stage event, featuring approximately 50 bands on 4 stages in one of the Northeast's most pristine natural amphitheaters. Rolling Stone Magazine, along with many other noteworthy national publications, consistently rates Mountain Jam as one to the top music festivals in the country. In 2011, Pollstar recognized Mountain Jam with a nomination for Music Festival of the Year. The Festival offers 3 day festival tickets with camping and Thursday night Pre-Festival Party additions, premium VIP Passes, and single day tickets. A special Kids Tent offers face painting, arts and crafts, workshops, team games and fun, fun, fun!

8- 11, CMA MUSIC FESTIVAL - Four Day Tickets $125; Single Day Tickets Available - no camping on site Featuring Carrie Underwood, Glen Campbell, Jason Aldean, Faith Hill, Martina McBride. 16- 18, LIVE OAK MUSIC FESTIVAL Santa Barbara, California - Festival Ticket - $122 Adults / $$37 Kids; RV Parking $70 The Live Oak Music Festival is a three day concert and camping event held every year on Father's Day weekend in the hills above Santa Barbara, California. 100% of Live Oak proceeds go to support KCBX Public Radio! Live Oak, as it has become affectionately known, is more than just a music festival - it is an experience rooted in music and community. These two elements together create a three-day journey into a timeless place that is far removed from ties and clocks, suits and schedules. The festival features an aural collage of live music ranging from traditional, folk, bluegrass and gospel, to blues, jazz, classical and world music. Not to be missed kids activities include rocket workshops, electricity and robot labs, astrophysics demonstrations, stories around the campfire and juggling workshops.

17- 18, HUDSON RIVER REVIVAL Hudson, New York - . Featuring Ani DiFranco, Joan Osborne, Arlo Guthrie . Weekend Pass with Camping - $185 Adults / Children Free . Volunteer Opportunities available in exchange for free festival ticket - application online - deadline May 25th . Clearwater's Great Hudson River Revival will feature a number of superb storytellers and family-oriented entertainers as well as juried crafts, the Green Living Expo, the Working Waterfront with small boat exhibits and rides, environmental education displays and exhibits, and the Circle of Song where audience participation is the focus. Since the 1960s, the Clearwater Festival has grown into the country's largest annual environmental celebration, its music, dance and storytelling, education and activism has attracted thousands of people of all ages to the shores of the Hudson River.

The Wanderlust Wanderkind Kids Program is the number one spot on-site for kids ages 4-10 to have a safe and exceptionally cool Wanderlust experience all of their own. Custom tailored to the interests of Wanderlust families, the Wanderkind kids program, is held on-site at each festival location and runs from 9:30 am to 4 pm Friday through Sunday. All activities, like kid's yoga, music, hula-hooping, and arts and crafts, are included in the program. Kids and parents will be responsible for their own lunches, but can enjoy samples from kid-friendly snack sponsors. Tickets are $50 per day.

JULY

June 29th- July 2nd, HIGH SIERRA MUSIC FESTIVAL , Quincy, California - 4 day Festival Pass: $185 adults / $50 kids - Price includes camping The High Sierra Music Festival is a great place to bring children. Our KidZone offers a wide variety of activities for kids of all ages. Arts and crafts such as mask-making workshops, assorted games such as slip-n-slide, special musical performances and parades are just some of the fun activities featured in our KidZone. Babysitting service is provided by Rockin' Nannies - check them out for a great way to enjoy some alone adult time! High Sierra Music has been producing world-class music festivals since 1991. Celebrating its 20th festival, High Sierra launched as a roots-oriented festival with 20 artists on one main stage and has since evolved into to a 10,000 person event with more than 50 performers on four day-time stages and in four late-night venues. The Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds in Quincy provide on-site infrastructure with opportunities to swim, bike, fish, golf and hike in the vicinity of a quaint mountain town.

June 23- August 5th, CRESTED BUTTE MUSIC FESTIVAL Mt. Crested Butte, Colorado - 2 day pass - $110 adults / FREE for kids 12 and under Kids Camp - $225 per child Hosted by the "Master of Strings," Drew Emmitt, Bluegrass In Paradise will start off with a kids camp, followed by two full days of workshops and performances on July 14th and 15th, 2012. Bluegrass bands from across the country will gather in Mt. Crested Butte, Colorado for a week of fun hosted on the Red Lady Stage at Crested Butte Mountain Resort Base Area. A fun and amazing music experience for kids ages 7-17. This five-day program offers classes in strings, percussion, vocals and movement and will expose kids to a variety of instruments and musical styles in a fun supportive atmosphere. Campers will be divided into four groups with a maximum of 15 students, and will rotate through four classes per camp day. All campers will attend two camp sessions together as a group to focus on the camp song and other group activities. Classes will be offered in Strings, Percussion, Guitar, and Vocals. Students will be assigned to three class types depending on experience level: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. In addition to the Bluegrass Kids Camp, kids under 12 are admitted free to the concerts with the purchase of an adult ticket. Bluegrass In Paradise is partnering with Trailhead Children's Discovery Museum, located near the concert venue at the ski base, to offer children's activities. A tented area will include activities such as bubble wands, face painting, hoola hoops and other fun games. The museum also will be open daily from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Crested Butte Mountain Resort's Adventure Park, adjacent to festival grounds, also will be open and features miniature golf and a climbing wall. 7- 9, BLISSFEST Harbor Springs, Michigan - Weekend Pass: $125 adults / Camping $50 The 32nd Annual Blissfest Music Festival will be a celebration of music, culture, art and community featuring a world of diverse and innovative folk, world and roots music and dance at the Festival Farm in picturesque rural northern Michigan. It is truly a blissful musical weekend to be shared with families, friends and music-lovers of all ages. The annual event is a showcase of the many musical styles that define American roots and world music. Bluegrass, Blues, Zydeco, Celtic, Folk, Jazz, Latin, Ethnic, World music and dance all share the stage. Innovators of these roots styles are on hand to dazzle nd amaze. There is something for everyone.

20- 23, GRASSROOTS FESTIVAL OF MUSIC Trumansburg, NY - 4 day admission pass: $110 adults / 12 and under FREE / RV Camping: $170 The GrassRoots Festival is fun for the whole family! The Festival welcomes children of all ages, and children 12 & under have free admission with a parent or guardian. We strive to create a relaxed, family-friendly environment and have a large kids' activities area in a central location. In the Kids' Area, children make crafts, enjoy performances and play games. It has its own schedule of daily activities and performances. In addition to the Kids' Area, there is the GrassRoots Art Barn. The Art Barn is host to Parade headquarters, where kids can make masks and dress-up to participate in the annual Happiness Parade which takes place at 3:00pm on Saturday afternoon. There is also face-painting, an ice-cream stand, food and craft booths, stilt walkers, jugglers, and a general family-welcoming atmosphere. Bring the whole family and enjoy! The festival is presented over a four day period (Thursday-Sunday) on four stages which run ridiculously long hours to accommodate the 60 some bands that play the festival. The band selection reflects the eclectic tastes of our 'amorphous committee', a difficult to nail down group of musicians and artists who lean toward roots related & world music.

21- 23, HIAWATHA FESTIVAL Marquette, Michigan - Weekend Pass: Adults $60 / Kids $5; Camping:$5 Each year's event features traditional-music styles that include bluegrass, old-time, Cajun, Celtic, acoustic blues and folk - including singer/songwriters - and dance. Mainstage acts include nationally known performers as well as regional and local favorites. The Festival also has special areas for children and with organized activities and performances designed for those age groups

26- 30, FLOYD FEST Floyd, Virginia - 4 day admission: $175 adults / $30 kids; Camping included Online Application Available for Volunteers Featuring Alison Kraus, Jackson Browne, Michael Franti, Bruce Hornsby, Ricky Skaggs The community of Floyd hosts FloydFest, a 4-day celebration of music and art from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 a.m. each day. Attendees have the opportunity to camp-out along the Blue Ridge Parkways, while enjoying live music, workshops and demonstration in the 'Global Village', and browse the offerings of over 100 artisans and crafters. For the kids, the 'Children's Universe' offers children-oriented performances, puppetry, workshops, playgrounds and babysitting. The festival offers something for everyone with 8 stages of over 50 live acts performing a variety of music genres ranging from rock, reggae, folk, bluegrass, jazz, and hip-hop. Camping accommodations consist of designated areas that include a wooded area and large camping field, with portable toilets, hand-washing stations and 8 warm-water stalls located nearby. A "Quiet Camping" area is available for families with children who wish to get away from the music scene at night.

AUGUST

4th - 6th, OREGON JAMBOREE , Sweet Home, Oregon - 3 days passes $135 adults / $35 children Featuring Wynonna and Rascall Flatts Volunteer Opportunities Available - apply online 2 stages, 22 shows, 1 sweet weekend! Family Friendly Camping Available - $100 per site Each year, thousands of fans gather from across the nation to attend The Oregon Jamboree in Sweet Home - the Northwest's premier country music and camping festival. The three-day festival features the biggest names in country music - past performers include: Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Wynonna Judd and many more. The excitement never ends with two stages, three beer and wine gardens, merchandise and concessions booths, and a Kids Zone! Four jumbo screens throughout the venue make every seat feel like a front row seat. Music-lovers can stay close to the action by camping out at one of the many RV and tent camping sites near the park. The picturesque beauty of Sweet Home - nestled between the Cascade Mountains and the Santiam River - sets a stunning backdrop for this star-studded weekend.

3rd - 6th, PICKATHON MUSIC FESTIVAL Happy Valley, Oregon - All Festival Access: $190 / RV Camping Indie roots music (folk, bluegrass, soul, blues, jazz, indie rock, acoustic, etc.) music festival held annually at beautiful Pendarvis Farm provides acres of lush meadow and forested campgrounds with hiking, audience views of Mt. Hood, food and craft vendors, beer gardens, fruit picking galore, beautiful site and stage design, fresh water, an array of shade and venue covering, and much more. Kids under 12 are free when the family comes to Pickathon and will be greeted by a continuous array of planned kid activities and performances throughout the weekend. Pendarvis Farm includes classic wooded Oregon hiking trails to take a break and enjoy peace and nature. The Pickathon strongly encourages families to attend, and a specific portion of the campground will be set aside for families that choose to use it. Pickathon will have Pickathon Radio broadcasting the Mountain View and Fir Meadows stages on 90.1 FM so parents can listen in from anywhere in the campground. So when parents are putting the kids to bed or just hanging out back at the campsite, they can stay connected the whole time. Portable toilets and hand washing stations are located throughout the venue and campground. There will be both a new lovely shower and sauna facility onsite provided by Oasis Express. A shower will cost $5. A comfortable waiting area will be located close to the Oasis showers. The shows on select stages (not all stages) do run past midnight. However, the festival area is large (80 acres) and the family designated camping areas are set aside specifically to cater to parents with children.

3rd - 6th, MAMMOTH FESTIVAL OF BEERS AND BLUESAPALOOZA Mammoth Lakes, CA - 3 day pass - $160 The Mammoth Festival of Beers and Bluespalooza was started 17 years ago by Sam Walker in the parking lot of Whiskey Creek with just ten breweries and a handful of beer lovers. With BBQ ribs on the grill and a local garage band playing on the roof of the restaurant, it was a fun beginning! The idea behind the event was simple-have fun and introduce Mammoth to the joys of handcrafted beers. The second year we threw in some real blues bands and a lot more breweries and we've never looked back. From these humble beginnings, the festival is now recognized as one of the best beer and blues festivals in the United States. FUN has always been, and continues to be, our top priority!

17th- 20th, PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL Schwenksville, Pennsylvania - All Festival/Vehicle Camping: $195 with a $30 RV Fee - Child Camping: $10 Extensive Volunteer Program in exchange for free festival ticket - online application available Save the date, folks. We'll all be back on the Old Pool farm soon enough, dancing in the sun, relaxing in Dulcimer Grove, strolling through the Craft Village and spending time with our big folk family listening to incredible music on the Main Stage! The longest running festival of its kind in the US, Philly Folk is visited each year by thousands of music lovers every year. With day-long music and activities for family and children, it remains the premiere music festival in the region. The Great Groove Band offers children a unique opportunity to participate in the festival. Your child can perform in The Great Groove Band on the Martin Stage at the Philadelphia Folk Festival. A three day participatory program for school age children, The Great Groove Band makes fiddle and folk music accessible to young people who sing or play a (mostly) stringed instrument. Participants join the band for the weekend, rehearsing intensively for three days before a main-stage performance on Sunday. The band includes fiddlers, guitarists, bass players, drummers, pianists, flutists and more.

Sept. 1st - 3rd, FOUR CORNERS FOLK FESTIVAL Pagosa Springs, Colorado - 3 day All Festival with Camping: $120 adults / Kids 12 and under FREE The folk and bluegrass music festival takes place outdoors on Reservoir Hill in downtown Pagosa Springs, Colo. The festival is especially nice for children because of the proximity to the town of Pagosa Springs and adjacent forest and wilderness areas, and its in-town hot springs pools. The pools include a non-mineral, family-friendly swimming pool with lap lanes, a fresh-water Jacuzzi, and 16 soaking pools for kids to enjoy. There's also big-screen movie viewing at the pools.
